Wilridge – Since 1988
Wilridge: A Journey of Milestones
In the heart of Washington State’s wine country, a tale of passion, perseverance, and profound reverence for the land unfolds—a story that began in 1990 when Paul Beveridge founded Wilridge Winery. With humble beginnings in a house cellar, Paul embarked on a journey to craft wines that not only tantalized the senses but also honored the environment from which they stemmed.
As the years passed, Wilridge flourished, both in size and in spirit. In 1996, a transformative moment arrived when the house was lifted, and a cellar was excavated—a symbolic gesture of expansion and evolution. This milestone not only increased production capacity but also marked a turning point in Wilridge’s commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.
In 2007, Wilridge made history by becoming the first and only certified Organic and Biodynamic Vineyard, Winery & Distillery in Washington State. This bold step underscored Wilridge’s unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship, setting a new standard for excellence in the industry. Hand-weeding the entire vineyard and orchard, eschewing toxic chemicals, and embracing biodynamic principles became the cornerstones of Wilridge’s identity..
Guided by the timeless traditions of French winemaking, Wilridge embraced a meticulous approach that blended classic techniques with innovative practices. While some wines were aged in French oak barrels, others were nurtured through alternative methods to preserve the purity of their flavors and showcase the essence of terroir.
At Wilridge, sustainability isn’t just about the vineyards—it’s about the orchards too. Alongside our vines, we tend to a diverse array of fruit trees, all grown using the same organic and biodynamic principles. From apples and pears to cherries, each fruit carries the essence of our land and climate.
Throughout the seasons, our orchards come alive with the sights and scents of nature. From the delicate blooms of spring to the ripe fruits of summer, every stage of growth is a reminder of our commitment to stewardship. We cherish the bounty of our orchards, knowing that each piece of fruit contributes to the vibrant tapestry of flavors found in our wines. By nurturing our orchards with care and respect, we honor the land and ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the fruits of our labor
Throughout its journey, Wilridge fostered a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration within the Washington wine community. From partnering with esteemed vineyards to mentoring emerging winemakers, Wilridge believed in lifting each other up and raising the quality bar for the entire state.
Over the years, Wilridge garnered recognition and acclaim for its commitment to quality and sustainability. From gold medals at prestigious wine competitions to accolades from industry experts, Wilridge wines earned a place among the finest in Washington State and beyond.
Certified by Salmon Safe and the Demeter Institute, Wilridge embraced its role as a steward of the environment. An original founding principle was having the lowest carbon footprint of any winery—a commitment that remains steadfast to this day. According to Bloomberg, Wilridge still holds this distinction, a testament to its unwavering dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Over the years, Wilridge has evolved while maintaining an unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional wines rooted in Biodynamic principles. This ongoing dedication serves as a testament to the winery’s vision, ensuring that every bottle produced reflects the unique terroir of the region and reflects the conscientious stewardship of the land.
Today, nestled within the Naches Heights AVA and sheltered by the Cascade mountain range, Wilridge’s estate vineyard and orchard continue to thrive. Each bottle of Wilridge wine tells a story—a story of the land, the climate, and the people who tend to it with care.
